Conacul lui Mald\u0103r<\/strong>, situated in M\u0103ld\u0103re\u0219ti, V\u00e2lcea county, is our place of beauty, peace and tradition. It became one of our favourite places to visit, enjoy and to share. We came back so many times in the last years, but every time we find something new to feel and cherish about it. Conacul lui Mald\u0103r<\/strong> is that beautiful and unique mix of silence, time standing still, amazing food, perfect details and passionate people.<\/p>\n The manor is owned by a Romanian family that has managed to arrange this place close to perfection, a location with an important history and no other possible chance to welcome visitors before.<\/p>\n Sitting by the fire, playing Rummy, tasting a good wine, reading, just enjoying the feelings and the connection that you can have, from time to time, with a place.<\/p>\n During summer you will enjoy the garden and the swimming pool, while in the autumn and winter you will fall asleep in the big lobby – next to a beautiful fireplace, the core element of the place.<\/p>\n Each room of the manor is different but all of them have one amazing detail: the doors that are still in their original shape, just refurbished carefully. And as doors are portals to other curious worlds, you will have to open them all in order to decide which world is your favourite. Old furniture, red geraniums at the windows, traditional decorations, great architecture, the amazing view on the verandah and that old lost air we all cherish when finding. It\u2019s all there.<\/p>\n We also have our favourites but we really liked the small room named Domni\u0219orul Radu<\/em>, as the tiny beds reminded us of childhood when time was still.<\/p>\n Choose a room with a verandah. Nothing compares to a beautiful morning spent here. You will certainly feel spoiled, back in the old days.<\/p>\n The food at Conacul lui Mald\u0103r<\/strong> is again, from another world. We travel in time, meeting noble people, getting to know their tastes, secrets and ingredients, feeling just like a guest in a sophisticated and royal, distant world. All the recipes are coming from a very old cooking book kept alive, so we feel the amazing taste of the old Romanian cuisine, with a bit of modern touch.<\/p>\n There is no standard food menu, each meal is announced in advance and you can choose out of two options. But the food served is simply delicious. Try the slow cooked duck and the local savarina<\/em>, a very sweet and syrupy cake, made in their own style.<\/p>\n The area is very famous in Romania thanks to\u00a0Horezu<\/em>\u00a0pottery. Find time to observe the clay becoming meaningful and receiving shape and personality in the hands of the artists. Another beautiful historical monuments to see in M\u0103ld\u0103re\u0219ti are culele<\/em>, semi-fortified constructions, in the past homes of the boyars, built for defence for the family members. The oldest one is Cula Greceanu. A beautiful underground salt mine,\u00a0Ocnele Mari<\/em>, is at around 30 minutes drive from the mansion, as well as Pe\u0219tera Muierii<\/em> (Woman\u2019s Cave),\u00a0<\/em>an elaborate cave system located in\u00a0Baia de Fier.<\/p>\n We all have a place, meaning that place.<\/em> The land of the soul, of getting lost, the place of all the memories and feelings, beginnings and endings, of all the good old days, no matter what they mean to each of us.
