Conacul Bratescu

A family boutique hotel

We should all be grateful that there are people who create magical places and invite us in. We should all thank them that by hard work, they make our stays cozy and warm.

Conacul Brătescu was built in this way by a Romanian young couple born and raised in Bran. Even if Bran may sound like a busy place, we have to explain that this mansion is located in a very quiet area of the village, surrounded by nature and having a lovely view over the local houses and mountains.

Conacul Bratescu

A place with a story

Brătescu name has a certain resonance in Bran. Mr. Emil Brătescu (the father), was a well known Romanian language teacher and he was regularly welcoming famous people in events related to literature, politics and culture. The long meetings that were ending long time after midnight were just like when you close your eyes and deeply smell an old book. What great times!

Each room offering a different feeling

Conacul Brătescu is not called for nothing a boutique hotel. Each room was designed in a different way, has a separate story and offers a different feeling. We chose the Romantic Blue room and we were delighted. Quiet evenings spent on the small terrace, breathing that mountain strong air, all perfect for a deep relaxing sleep. As we could not stop ourselves from sneaking around, we checked all the free rooms and decided we need to come back here and accommodate also in other rooms, to try other feelings. So, next booking will be made for Rhapsody room, Charming Vista or the Imperial Suite.

What to eat

The restaurant is big, it can accommodate almost 60 people and is also a very nice option for small events. The fireplace that governs the room is a joy in the evening, every table having a direct view towards it. The food is tasty, there are plenty of options to choose from and together with the wine list, the mix is perfect. Try the traditional soups, a main course and the pancakes for dessert.

What to do

Reading. Taking pictures. Watching the fireplace. Contemplating

Inside Conacul Brătescu you will find only relaxation and time standing still. So reading, searching for a perfect spot for photography, watching the fireplace, contemplating life and stillness are the perfect things to do here.

Where to go

Bran is famous for the Bran Castle, also known especially by foreign people as Dracula’s Castle. In the last years, since it has been recovered from the state and having a private management, it has passed through different processes of restauration and is nice to stop by and visit it. No matter the weather, after the castle visit you can always stop and have a tea or a lunch at beautiful Casa de Ceai (Tea House) that you will find in the yard of the castle. Also, 20 min away by car, towards Brașov, you will find Cetatea Râșnov, a fortification on top of a hill, with amazing views towards mountains and old villages bellow.

What HE Likes

  • the Blue Room
  • the family touch
  • the story behind

  • The name Bran comes from the Turkish language and means gate;
  • The Bran Castle’s construction was complete in 1388. It was built on a steep cliff, with an exceptional view of the nearby hills. It served the role of customs, holding 3% of goods transferring in and out of Transylvania and the role of a fortress;
  • In books and legends Dracula is a Transylvanian Count with a castle located high above a valley, in the Principality of Transylvania; this character is often confused with Vlad Țepes (Vlad the Impaler), sometimes known as Vlad Dracul, who was a Walachian Prince with a castle, now in ruins, located in the Principality of Wallachia; because Bran Castle is the only castle in Transylvania that fits the description of Dracula’s Castle, it is known throughout the world as Dracula’s Castle.
  • Vlad Țepeș, the ruler of Walachia, has an association with Bran Castle. He was involved in several campaigns to punish the German merchants of Brașov who failed to abide by his commands;
  • Bran Castle remains on the first place among the most visited tourist attractions in Brașov county; in 2018 it was visited by one million tourists.
