After passing through couple of years of intense renovation, Kalnoky Castle opened its doors for visitors, hosting now The Museum of Transylvanian Life, in Micloșoara. This is a project initiated by the Kalnoky Foundation, funded by the Financial Mechanism of the European Union and the Government of Romania, aiming to contribute to the development of the Central Region of Romania.
Once you pass the iron gates and walk the beautiful alley with the amazing trees on both sides, you will see the castle that was once the hunting manor of Kalnoky family. Today you will find here a collection of old objects, recovered, restored, donated or bought: weapons used during the fights with the Turks, clothes, wooden boxes, even an original Streicher piano, similar to the one used by Johannes Brahms.
After the Revolution of 1989, Count Tibor Kalnoky decided that it would be the best to re-unite the family properties and help them regain their shine from the old times. We are talking about a family that dates from 1252 and playing a very important role in the area. Nowadays, after many years of reconstruction and hard work, Micloșoara is becoming a very interesting touristic attraction.
