Life in Bucovina, between tradition and contemporaneity
Bucovina is sun and green. Hills chained in a fairytale outline, laid out at every step, making your road, view, journey, more beautiful. Bucovina is strong air, red faces and all that still remained good in the country, tradition, past and people. It fascinates us, surprises us, makes us happy as meeting its land calms us down every time. A welcome break from physical and spiritual work. Bucovina seems distant, not always easy to reach, but deserving, every time, the gratitude of the moment. We were delighted to see it again, this time in another landscape, somewhere down at the foot of the mountains, surrounded by water, firs and light. At Pensiunea Bio Valeputna we discovered how the tradition of hundreds of years can be combined so beautifully with current details, with the modern design and comfort of our times.
The house built of wood is the host of recovered materials and reconditioned objects. It is made of natural materials, by skilled craftsmen. The first tour of the guesthouse is a delight: woven carpets made of sheep’s wool, locally made ceramic, handmade lighting objects and furniture made of iron.
WHAT TO DO
Exquisite dishes, peace and living in a place surrounded by an amazing nature
“Bucovina way of living, with all that it means: exquisite food, peace and being in a place surrounded by an amazing nature.” It is what Bio Valeputna promises and what we also both felt. The house offers modern comfort, but in traditional details, subtly included. The six guest rooms have wooden details, are warm and welcoming and offer a wonderful view of the mountains, at the window. The living room and at the same time the dining one, impressed us with details, colors, good taste, comfort and the view. All seen even more beautifully, through the warm light and the magic of the burning fireplace. A fairytale breakfast, family lunch or an extended dinner, in the most beautiful and warm setting.
Outside there is a gazebo where you can dine and a fireplace. The food prepared here can also be served outdoors, on one of the two terraces, one of them being right on the bank of Putna stream. The little ones will definitely enjoy the outdoor playground. The guesthouse’s garden offers fresh vegetables in summer, and there is a small pond with golden trout nearby.
Bio Valeputna is also a place of absolute relaxation: spa facilities, modular swimming pool, with hydromassage and artificial currents for swimming, hot water therapy in a special format and Finnish sauna.
WHAT TO EAT
A local tradition: smoked trout in beech sawdust, fir cones and juniper berries
If you arrive at Bio Valeputna, you should know that the place has the concept of self-catering. Guests have a fully equipped kitchen and a generous dining area. In the courtyard of the guesthouse, you will also be able to prepare your favorite dishes. However, the good news is that for extra meals, those who want to enjoy Bucovina food must announce a week before booking.
At the same time, in terms of gastronomy, Bio Valeputna beautifully values an old local tradition: the smoked trout, with a very tasty result. The recipe, specific to the area, is actually the mix of beech sawdust, fir cones and juniper berries. The aromas ennoble the trout, making it unique in taste and method. Also here is the Bio Valeputna factory, in the place of the first trout farm in Romania, established in 1896. The tradition is beautifully continued, the factory becoming a local attraction and a place that delivers smoked trout and various fish specialties throughout Romania. So we advise you not to miss this absolutely unique taste of the area.
Also here, in Putna Valley, was invented the local dish called Cobză – smoked trout with beech wood, covered with fir branches and hazelnut twigs. Other spectacular dishes that can be ordered in advance are the trout in sour cream, trout borscht, baked trout or fried with garlic sauce and polenta. We know, it sounds great!
WHERE TO GO
Egg decorating lessons, weaving wool carpets, embroidery, handkerchiefs or tablecloths
Around here, nature is the one that creates the most beautiful spectacle. You landed in a beautiful valley, surrounded by conifers, trails and many natural oases. The surroundings of the guesthouse offer some of the best cycling routes in the region, on forest roads, in the fresh air and dreamy landscapes. The guesthouse has also bicycles for both adults and children. You can reach Codrii Seculari from Giumalău Mountains, towards Rarău or Mestecăniș.
Bucovina is an absolutely ideal place for the lessons offered. About tradition, customs, recipes and crafts. Why not learn something new? So here you can take lessons in decorating eggs, weaving carpets of wool, embroidery, handkerchiefs or tablecloths, all under the guidance of experienced ladies from the area. Here you can also fish for trout from the pond of the guesthouse and then learn how to prepare it in a unique way, how to smoke it using fir cones, how to make cobze and prepare delicacies.
Bio Valeputna has further shaped our appetite for the wonderful and rich Bucovina. But it also offered us something new inside the baggage of emotions and feelings that we carefully pack, after each visit close to the soul. It brought the perfect and surprising combination of the modern with the traditional, without affecting in any way the authenticity and splendor of the place. It showed us that the tradition can be continued, valued, adapted to the new, enriched with new possibilities, through everything that the modern world has to offer modernly and easily. Bio Valeputna showed us perhaps the most beautiful travel back in the past, present and future, showing us that yes, the traditional tourism is based today on contemporaneity, technology, new vision, as past and present are working much more beautifully together.Pensiune Bio Valeputna, Păstrăvăriei Street, no. 135 A, Pojorâta, Suceava County
