We met Casa Timiș while knowing that, in a way, we had been there before. Returning has also its charm. Coming back to a dear place, in an already known air, in a familiar universe, has its beauty, magic and ritual. Not just the discovery of a new landscape, of an unprecedented sensation. Casa Timiș is today a Neo-Romanian mansion built near Bucharest. Special gastronomy, three restaurant concepts, local wines, vineyard, elegant accommodation and nature.
We returned to a place imprinted in our memory, for the good energy, peace and infinity that we find around. We discovered it today with a new image, changing, in progress, creating a new story. Casa Timiș, known to us as Conacul Domniței Ralu, was reborn beautifully, in a modern way, giving us the chance to understand that places have as many lives, faces, images and inner worlds as people.
The story of Casa Timiș begins in the 20th century, being a beautiful manor built by the disciple of Ion Mincu architect. Today, after complexe renovations, it is taken over by Timiș family and becomes the place of peace near Bucharest. A special gastronomy, local wines and memories that emerge or are created right now. Casa Timiș is a real restoration project, but also one of adding value to the Romanian identity. All the energies of the place are concentrated on the mansion, the center of this recreated universe. Around it, paved alleys, hills, vines, nature and colors.
At Casa Timiș you can enjoy a culinary experience created by chef Nico Lontras. Wander through the mansion and the paved alleys, discover the painted landscape sitting quietly on a bench or on the terrace of the Mediterranean restaurant. Enjoy a glass of local wine, in our favorite room, The English Bar. Here you let yourself be guided in the atmosphere of the old English bars. Accents, details, real objects, solid oak and eclectic style. A place born out of the passion for physical and imaginary travels. The bar is called “1925”, the year of the mansion’s birth. Anglo-Saxon style, Chesterfield armchairs and sofas, golf scenes wallpaper from 1930s, a carpet with a patented design, made by a family that produces Scottish tartan rugs and carpets from 1947.
The bicycle routes are also un option offered by the mansion, having here several routes to take, depending on the age and the level of difficulty.
Casa Timiș is located near the Wine Road in Prahova County. Stunning landscapes, medieval monasteries and old mansions, all surrounded by hectares of vines. At Casa Timiș there are five hectares of Sauvignon Blanc and Merlot vineyards. The wine is “the binder of the relations between people (…) a living being, sensitive and full of character (…) a reflection, inner experience, expression of a road that begins in the vineyard and is guided by nature and people. ” We recommend you to taste the wines of the house, which you can enjoy in The English Bar, in a different atmosphere, guided by specialists in the field.
We loved the culinary experience at Casa Timiș, being also delighted by the variety of dishes. The mansion offers two restaurants and one that offers finger food. Each one has a special component, an elegant atmosphere or a story view.
Casa Timiș Restaurant is the one with a traditional menu, but interpreted in a gourmet way. A place of Romanian gastronomy, of the wines chosen exactly, with a new, effervescent and creative spirit. Traditional beans with truffles, baked marrow with parsley salad or beef soup with Horezu cheese.
Then, Veranda dintre Vii, surrounded by stained glass windows through which nature floods the atmosphere, creates a current experience, with a Mediterranean specificity. Modern elegance, Varaschin furniture, a reinterpreted barrique, Mediterranean colors: foie gras, risotto with wild mushrooms and truffles, black cod fillets with sea grapes or organic chicken in coconut milk and turmeric sauce.
Inside The English Bar, after tasting the wine varieties of Casa Timiș domain, you can have the traditional meat platter, the English tuna salad or the Wagyu burger.
To us, Casa Timiș was returning to a place we somehow knew, from other times. But also the rediscovery of a forgotten magic, the charm existing inside the same frame, but offering a different, current, elegant image. Combining styles, stories, tastes, colors and times in a surprising way, as we might not expect. We enjoyed a generous autumn sun beautifully painted in the distance, we discovered the neat and fruitful paths of the vine, the supreme proof of the permanence of a people.
