The journey inside authentic Romania, meeting the hosts, seeing the involvement in the community and the pioneering in the matter of premium traditional tourism, continues. Romania is more beautiful, perhaps, more picturesque and full of meaning and lessons than ever. We have places worth “living”, special experiences, gifts to give and receive.
We continue our journey inside Romania with another 20 places close to our hearts, places from which we always learn something: about people, about the world and ourselves.

Today, Alma-Via Guesthouse is a beautiful, traditional guesthouse of Saxon origin, restored and transformed. Located between Sibiu and Mediaș, it can be a beautiful starting point in discovering Transylvania. The imposing gate always hides another story and reveals an old barn, today a restaurant. The old beams combine surprisingly with the modern windows. Each room tells a story from the past, from 1871.

The story of Timiș House begins in the 20th century, being a beautiful neo-Romanian mansion. After extensive renovations, it is taken over by Timiș family and becomes the house with peace, mystery, special gastronomy, local wines and memories that arise or are created right now. A real restoration project, but also one of adding value to the Romanian identity.

Count Tibor Kálnoky currently owns several properties in Micloșoara, where we found wonderful traditional houses. We got so close to the simple thrill of living at the countryside, to every corner of nature and every season. Since 1800, the houses have been restored, while preserving the original elements, the beauty of the past and the Transylvanian details. We lived in the blue house, where you can have the most beautiful winter story.

At Haller Castle the whole area is a story. All you have to do is sit at a table outside, order a glass of Romanian wine and try to imagine how things were arranged hundreds of years ago. Sunny days are a blessing, the yellow color of the castle looks much more beautiful in the light. Notice the old carriage and the collection of cars, they will keep you anchored in those noble times.

Conacu’ Boierului is the perfect place for small wanderings in nature. We would recommend a breakfast served early, a few hours of observation of the place, lunch on the terrace, a good afternoon sleep, a hike, then an extended dinner with Romanian wines. You will find that beautiful mix of traditional details with wooden beams, furniture and old objects, with all parts of beautiful Romania.

In beautiful Corund, a diverse land, painted in dozens of colors and motifs, we were overwhelmed by the feeling that the people of a place are sometimes a blessing. The 100-year-old Molnoș mansion was, at different times, a house, pottery factory, school, nationalized, ruined, recovered, then restored and today a creator of experiences. The current owner saved the beautiful building, finding out that he also studied here, as a child. Returning.

At Avincis Winery in Drăgășani, the image of a family that carried forward the Romanian history, tradition, values and culture is outlined. Old and new, wine produced for generations, Dobrușa villa from the 1900s, industry, but also story. The place has a certain energy in every season. Spring and autumn are beautiful for their colors and flavors, for the preparation of the new season and the late harvest.

Drăgași estate, the seven-hectare vineyard that stands at your feet. “When the sun is too high, you hide in the basement. Among the oak barrels, in the shade of the stone arches, things are simple and clear.” The estate has an amazing position, on a hill facing the river. Infinity has so many colors and shapes here that we would sit for hours just watching the view. And from the vineyard you can see the mansion, the Pilgrim’s House.

At Haita Land we chose to live in a modern, minimalist chalet, with the most beautiful view of the mountains. We spent our days away from the world, on the land of the pack, in a charming light, at the wide windows of the wooden house, in the silence of the wilderness. Reading, cooking in your own kitchen, captivated by the most beautiful sky seen at night.

At Magnolia Resort we found the place and the moment to calm down – in a corner of nature, under the trees, in the most beautiful light of Maramureș. An authentic, rural, simple story with so many colors. A huge courtyard in which five wooden houses offer the experience of the days spent on the sun-drenched porch, cooking in your own kitchen, resting in hammocks, in the wild air.

Meșendorf Gasthaus is a green, quiet oasis, in a village that seems to be resting all the time. The property has been restored, keeping the Saxon way of life intact, wooden guesthouses with high ceilings and outbuildings. The first house built dates from 1919. We chose the apartment, with handcrafted furniture, traditional items and a sauna inside the bathroom, which we found interesting.

Each house at Oberwood has its own personality and story. Their names are related to the most important activities carried out in the village: Sun House, for energy, life and the human being. Friendship House, for harmony, peace and joy of being together. The Mill House, a symbol of things that change and of water as the engine of life. Aries House, for shepherding, fauna and male presence. Flower of Life House, for nature, flora and everything that can be grown in the village.

At Porumbacu Treehouse you can be at home in the middle of the forest, at the foot of Negoiu mountain, in a tree house. Harmony in nature, good air, wind, rain and sun on the same terrace, open to another world. Two suspended houses, each offering a different experience. Near them, a beautiful garden with trees, fruits and vegetables, behind which flows smoothly or swirling, depending on the season, Porumbacu river.

At Schuster Boarding House, an Art Nouveau house from 1914 was reborn in Brașov. A premium experience, stylish accommodation and a rooftop terrace, with great city views. A wonderful building and a flawless world beyond it. And inside, another world: modern details, elegant furniture, warm lights, returning to contemporaneity, a special refinement.

At The Good House Hărman we met again on our way the emotion: the quiet air, the details of an old, rebuilt house, the special and good people, our souls that are enriched every time we meet hosts and houses that we come to love. The house at number 427 in Hărman, a village that houses a fortress and an 800-year-old fortified church, starts from the foundations of the specific Saxon household, preserving authentic elements.

At Upperhouse Boutique Hotel we probably found the favorite view over Brașov: the old center unfolding in front of us, at the base of Tâmpa Mountain. History, past and contemporaneity, pieces of style and architecture, people, nature. On the balcony of our room. A boutique hotel with deco chic details, a bohemian air. The architecture of the place blends beautifully with modern details and accents, materials, textures and colors of our times.

Then we discover the beautiful Valea Verde, exactly as its name suggests: a vast oasis, of a fresh green. In addition to the beautiful area, the story of the place turned out to be our favorite part. Valea Verde is in fact a confession of love, born in Romania. Ulrike and Jonas Schäfer, visiting the small village of Cund in Transylvania, fall deeply in love with these lands and… started building.

Then sit on the green grass, stay in the summer sun, enjoy a glass of wine or coffee on the wonderful terrace of the restaurant, talk by the fireplace, explore the garden full of vegetables, play with the animals. The elegant meeting with Villa Csonka gave us a moment to go back in time, fascinated by the warm but sophisticated dialogue we took part in. A historic monument villa, in a 3500 sq m park, Secession style, 1900’s atmosphere. Original Thonet and Art Deco pieces, uniquely designed rooms and apartments. Old-fashioned atmosphere and modern comfort, generous spaces, elegant, classic lines, warm colors, old objects and details, light, generous windows, beautifully built.

Finally, imagine the elegance of a meaningful past and contemporary comfort. Villa Katharina, a 19th-century architectural gem that retains every detail of its identity, is reborn as a boutique hotel. Perfectly hidden near Schei Gate in Brașov, it offers a wonderful bouquet of emotions and romance, as it is said that beautiful Katharina was in the past a young woman who stole Vlad Țepeș’s heart.
