We have always found the Danube Delta fascinating. In addition to its beauty, diversity, color, landscape and experience, the simple thought that we have a corner of nature unique in the world. What do we do next? It would be wonderful to preserve, to repair, to grow. Experiences inside The Danube Delta are becoming more and more popular, as the number of guesthouses and travel offers increases. In a wide variety of options, however, we always appreciate and choose the authentic, the traditional materials, the restored places, specific details, the good hosts, fresh food, the simple things instead of the crowd. Delta is certainly one of the most beautiful symbols of Romania. Included in the UNESCO World Heritage Site, the second largest and best preserved delta in Europe, the Danube Delta measures 2200 square kilometers of rivers, canals, swamps, lakes and reed islands. The biodiversity here is unique (over 5500 species of flora and fauna), the extremely beautiful wild landscapes, fish specialties that you have never tried before, a certain passion of the people for the lands where they are born, leaving behind the harsh living conditions that Delta sometimes imposes – all these reasons and much more should make you visit this wild piece of heaven.

This is how we discovered four wonderful oases located in one of the most beautiful places in Europe, finding us extremely happy every time we see destinations where we can truly feel the spirit and taste of this land.
Limanul Resort, located in the northern part of the Danube Delta, in Chilia Veche, the oldest and largest human settlement in the Delta, is like a blue story. As soon as you open the gate and leave the main road behind, you arrive in a completely different world from what exists outside. The place is accessible both by water and land, thanks to its location near Roșcova-Buhaia, where there is the most important colony of wild pelicans in Europe and Letea Forest, an area with many wild horses, among the last on the continent. The place offers 12 double rooms, each designed differently, but very close to the wild spirit of the Delta. Some parts of the old property, such as the doors or windows, have been reintegrated into the new construction, which we consider to be extremely beautiful. In addition to the joy of the beautiful resort, have a drink by the pool or relax on the wooden terrace, admire all the beauty that surrounds you and venture into the wild Delta. Take a fast boat and let yourself be guided by Lică, the trusted man and the local guide. Get to know every canal and lake and all the species of birds specific to the area.
Some houses, places, families are like pieces of heaven. Grace, peace, light, gratitude. The traditional house reborn even more beautiful on a forgotten street, the smile and hospitality of the host that remind us once again why we are connected to our lands, families returning on Sundays from the church, each of them wearing the inherited and preserved clothes, multiculturalism – in beings, feelings, habits. We stopped on our trip in North Dobrogea, in Sarichioi, close to Razim Lake. We let ourselves be carried away in a story of a fascinating Lipovan blue. At Casa Filip, an old restored Lipovan household, born a century ago, in 1921, we discovered small pieces of the world: a distant childhood, with traditions, smile, sun and thousands of colors, passionate and determined hosts wishing to change the face of this part of the country, a beautiful, complete family, which radiates every time they talk about tradition, faith, Romania and Sarichioi. The old house has somehow preserved the most beautiful testimonies of time: the Lipovan style, the walls, the natural colors, the wooden windows and doors, the blue, the porch and the reed roof. In the New House, the smell of breakfast wakes us up every morning. Here we are also lazy on lenjanka, a stove built to sit on, especially on cold days. The surprise of the property is the tower, a good place for a coffee in the morning or a good wine at noon, with a beautiful view of Razim Lake, the ruins of Enisala Fortress or the towers of the Lipovan churches.
We arrive also in Crișan, a locality located in the middle of the Danube Delta, on the bank of Sulina arm. Here we discover Delta Boutique & Carmen Silva, belonging to the same complex, two small blue oases, which respect the architecture of the place, with a beautiful pontoon in front of the guesthouses and many traditional fish dishes, enjoyed on the terrace, overlooking the Danube.
The room we chose fits beautifully into the landscape of the Delta: details and images of the place, simple design, small intimate spaces, feeling comfortable in nature. The most interesting part, however, is the blue swimming pool built upstairs, outdoors, with a lot of wood, details in the specific colors, an oasis of relaxation and rest under the Delta sun. We admire from here or from the small pontoon in front of the house the whole construction, which respected the traditional elements and materials, such as the reed, beautifully framed in the modern design of the place. From here we go by boat to the north, on the old Danube, on Bogdaproste lakes, La Amiază, to Mila 23 village or to the south, to Caraorman Forest, on Iacob lake, Litcov canal and on Cuibida lake. Lovers of fish specialties will be the most pampered here: starting with breakfast rich in all kinds of snacks and fresh specialties and continuing with lunch and dinner, when you will enjoy fresh fish, baked or grilled. Each meal will be a simple delight, specific to the area, accompanied by a white, light, summer wine.
On our trip we were also enchanted by Iara Guesthouse, a family location, where you can really feel that comfortable, friendly atmosphere, the well done things, the delicious taste of fresh fish from the Danube. Located on the left bank of Sfântu Gheorghe arm, the oldest and most accessible arm of the Danube, in Ilganii de Jos, Tulcea County, in Iara you will be able to choose between ten beautiful, brightly colored, rustic rooms, all overlooking the Danube. You will notice the good taste in their decoration, traditional elements, accessories and colors. The food is typical: tasty fish dishes, delicious pies, fish soups and pike-filled rolls, a local specialty that requires a lot of time and skill to be prepared. There is also the option of organizing thematic and practical experiences here – fishing, for example, for the experienced. But we recommend you to take a day to explore the Danube Delta with a fast boat, observing in the morning the amazing pelicans, cormorants and egrets, wonderful water lilies, wild horses, painted sunrises.
After an adventure on the waters of the Danube Delta, discovering so much beauty, diversity and changing landscapes, we stop at the end, on a wooden terrace, watching the night so beautifully embracing the place.
